NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College first-year runner
Jack Califano (Baltimore, Md., The Park School of Baltimore) has been named the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 9, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Califano paced the Gryphons at the Purchase Invitational, with the rookie harrier finishing 27th overall. In his first collegiate race, he posted a time of 33:53 on the 8 km course, a 32-second improvement over the Gryphons' top runner in the same event last year, despite poor course conditions created by Saturday's torrential rain.
Head Coach
Nephi Tyler was pleasantly surprised by Califano's race. “Under the downpour conditions and several miles of trails an ankle deep under water, Jack maintained a clock work consistent pace and turned in a solid performance. He showed he is a racer no matter what happens on race day.”

In addition, Sarah Lawrence men's soccer player
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) was named to the weekly HVMAC Honor Roll for his two-goal performance in the Gryphons' 3-2 loss in their season opener.
