On February 24, men's swimmer Cameron Martinez received his invitation to participate in the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in Greensboro, N.C., March 16-19.
Martinez obtained the necessary qualifying time in two events and is slated to compete in three events at the championship. Among all of the men's swimmers in Division III, he is seeded No. 5 in the 100 yard butterfly and No. 8 in the 200 yard butterfly. By virtue of his qualification in those events, Martinez will also be invited to compete in the 200 yard individual medley, in which he is seeded No. 29.
Martinez becomes the College's first-ever participant in an NCAA national-level championship event. Last fall, the women's cross country team participated in the 2016 Atlantic Region Championship, becoming the first Gryphons to participate in any level of NCAA championship.
