ELIGIBILITY
According to Division III rules, transfer students may not compete in their first year at SLC, but most students qualify for an exception. You should contact your coach or the Compliance Coordinator (see contact info below) to ensure you are eligible to play.
Your eligibility is preserved if you...
- never practiced or competed in intercollegiate athletics (any sport, neither varsity nor club);
- have not practiced or competed in your sport for at least two calendar years; or you
- remain academically or athletically eligible at your current institution.
In other words, disciplinary issues at your current institution may follow you to SLC. If you are leaving your current team and want to transfer to SLC, be sure to remain in good academic and athletic standing at your current school.
PERMISSION TO CONTACT
NCAA Bylaws prohibit Sarah Lawrence College coaches from making contact with student-athletes of NAIA or other NCAA institutions without first obtaining written permission.
If you are currently a college student-athlete and would like to speak to an SLC representative about transferring, we are eager to hear from you.
NCAA Division III student-athletes can use the NCAA Self-Release form to grant permission on their own behalf. This process allows you to speak to SLC coaches and athletics staff for 30 days without your current institution knowing.
Student-athletes of Division I, Division II or NAIA institutions must contact their respective athletic department and request permission to speak to a Sarah Lawrence coach.
Division I, Division II or NAIA Student-Athletes
- Contact your athletic department (in writing) requesting permission to speak to SLC representatives.
- If your request is denied, you are entitled to a hearing opportunity.
- Once you have permission, contact our Athletics Director (914-395-2560) who will confirm receipt and put you in touch with a coach.
