I read that varsity athletes are required to have a current physical examination in order to compete. What is the best time of year to schedule an appointment for an updated physical?

Sarah Lawrence College requires all student-athletes to have an updated physical each academic year. The physical must be conducted within six months of the start of the practice season. All first-year students, including non-athletes, are required to have a physical as a condition of enrollment at SLC; one physical exam can meet both requirements.

What options are available if my child is unable to receive a physical exam during the summer?

First-year students must receive a physical exam before coming to campus. This is a condition of accepting admission at SLC. Students should receive the necessary paperwork from SLC Health Services in the spring prior to enrollment.

Once the academic year begins, SLC Health Services is able to provide physical exams. Winter/spring sport student-athletes requiring this service should make an appointment as soon as they arrive on campus for the fall. Fall student-athletes are encouraged to arrange an appointment in the preceding spring (March-May) so that the physical exam is already complete for the subsequent fall.

When student-athletes arrive early for preseason training, will they move into their permanent residence hall or will they be expected to move at the end of preseason training?

Student-athletes who arrive early for preseason will move into their permanent residence hall.

Will the dining halls be open and offering service during the fall preseason and winter training periods?

Dining halls are only open during periods that the full student body is on campus. When student-athletes are on campus outside of these times (fall preseason, winter training, spring break), the SLC Department of Athletics and Physical Education will provide meals and snacks.

Student-athletes with allergies and/or dietary restrictions should alert their coach of these circumstances. We make the best effort to be accommodating and welcome ideas for meals that will suit individual needs.

Can any incoming student tryout for a varsity athletic team?

Generally, the answer is yes, but each team is different. Potential student-athletes should contact the sport's head coach.

Are varsity athletic team schedules available online?

Schedules for athletic teams are posted at www.GoGryphons.com as soon as they are available. All schedules are subject to change.

Can I invite an SLC team to my home for a meal, or can I pay for a team meal on the road or after a home contest?

Yes. If you are interested in providing a meal for an SLC team, we recommend you contact the Athletic Director to discuss opportunities and details.

Will I be contacted if my child is sick or injured?

U.S. federal law restricts our ability to share medical information. In the United States, individuals who are at least 18 years old are entitled to privacy with regard to their medical records. As such, we cannot disclose information to parents without the student-athlete's explicit consent, except in rare specific circumstances.

Why is my child's account being charged for a missing uniform?

All varsity student-athletes participate in the same equipment distribution and return process. When uniforms are distributed, each piece is marked with a tracking number before it is assigned to a specific student-athlete. Each individual student-athlete agrees to accept responsibility for the assigned items until those items are appropriately returned at the end of the competitive season.

Failure to return distributed gear and equipment in accordance with the guidelines and timelines outlined upon distribution may result in a financial penalty. Student-athletes who return articles that were assigned to another student-athlete may still be held financially responsible for the pieces they were originally given.
