Mackrel was named the Skyline Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year after accumulating the most points among first-year swimmers over the course of the two day 2017 championships. On Saturday, she competed in the 100 yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:04.04, narrowly beating out her competition for third place. Her day also included a sixth-place effort in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.58. Along with the 28 points she scored on Friday -- including a victory in the 100 backstroke -- Mackrel totaled one point more than her closest opponent in the race for the rookie accolades.
