BJ Sanders was named a 2016-17 Sarah Lawrence Newcomer of the Year. He played in all 25 games, making 14 starts. Sanders led the team with 89 field goals made and 194 rebounds, and he posted a season field-goal percentage of .497 (89-179), second best ever in team history. He recorded his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds versus Penn State-Abington (Nov. 19) before being named to Scranton Invitational All-Tournament Team (Nov. 19). Sanders recorded a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and season-high five assists at Old Westbury (Jan. 17). He then scored season-high 16 points with 13 rebounds in double-double game at St. Joseph’s L.I. (Jan. 28). His fourth double-double came on 10 points and season-high 14 rebounds against St. Joseph’s Brooklyn (Jan. 31). Sanders totaled 10 points or more in 11 games with 10 rebounds or more in eight games. He finished his rookie season with 7.8 rebounds per game, atop the career rebounding average rankings. Sanders was also a two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week honoree.
