QUEENS, N.Y.—Snapping a two-match skid, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis defeated Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) opponent St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 9-0, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Tuesday night.
Sarah Lawrence (5-4, 3-1 HVWAC) defeated the Bears by winning 84 of 96 games, blanking St. Joseph's (1-5, 1-1 HVWAC) in four positions.
Beginning in singles action, first-year player
Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) shutout her opponent, 10-0, in the top overall position, while classmate
Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y., Sweet Home) duplicated the feat in the No. 5 match.
At No. 6 singles, rookie
Mary Kairidi (Thessaloniki, Greece, Anatolia College) picked up a 10-1 victory, while sophomore
Katie Voss (San Rafael, Calif., West Salem (Ore.)) followed with a 10-2 triumph in her match at No. 3.
Senior
Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) and first-year player
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) were victorious in the matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively—both by a 10-4 margin.
In doubles play, Landes and Dessanti teamed to shutout their opponents in the No. 1 pairs match, 8-0. Voss and Garber had a slightly more trouble in their 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Fiordaliso and Kairidi partnered to sweep the No. 3 doubles position, 8-0.
Sarah Lawrence plays its final regular-season road match against Yeshiva University at noon on Sunday, Oct. 21. An additional home date of competition has been added to the schedule, as the Gryphons' regular-season finale will now be at home against Cooper Union on Monday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
