BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—For the first time in league play, the Gryphons were outmatched, as Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis fell to Pratt Institute, 8-1, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) match on Saturday at Andrews Tennis Courts.
The loss deals Sarah Lawrence (4-3, 2-1 HVWAC) its first conference defeat of the year, while defending HVWAC champion Pratt (3-1, 2-0 HVWAC) remains unbeaten against league opponents.

Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) was honored for her contributions to the Gryphons tennis program.
In singles action, Pratt opened up a major lead in the match with a clean sweep of the six solo matches. Cannoneer Sarah Conant recorded a 10-0 shutout in the No. 2 match, while Sophie Frost won the No. 1 showdown by a 10-2 margin and Alexa Trembly took the No. 4 position, 10-3.

Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y., Sweet Home) kept the No. 6 match close but eventually was defeated 10-8.
In doubles action, Fiordaliso and fellow first-year player
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) struck back and stole the No. 3 pairs match, 9-7, to fend off the Pratt sweep. Cannoneers Trembly and Conant each earned a second win by partnering in the No. 1 doubles match.
Sarah Lawrence is next scheduled to face Purchase College on the road at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
