Women’s Tennis Dismisses Brooklyn College

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—
The Gryphons notched their second straight win on Sunday, as Sarah Lawrence College defeated visiting Brooklyn College, 7-2, in a non-conference match on Andrews Tennis Courts. With the win, Sarah Lawrence (3-2, 2-0 HVWAC) regains its winning record, while Brooklyn (3-1, 2-0 CUNYAC) is hit with its first defeat of the season.

In doubles action, Sarah Lawrence's top pair of sophomore Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio, Shaker Heights) and first-year player Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) pulled out an 8-5 victory. Sophomore Katie Voss (San Rafael, Calif., West Salem (Ore.)) and senior Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) squeaked out a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles, while the first-year pair of Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) and Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y., Sweet Home) completed the sweep with a win by retirement.

With the Gryphons in front, 3-0, Fiordaliso added Sarah Lawrence's fourth team point with a win by retirement at No. 6 singles. Brooklyn's Hadiya Cameron (Brooklyn, N.Y./Clara Barton) was the first Bulldog to get on the scoreboard by squeaking out a tough 6-3, 7-6(7-5) win in the No. 5 match.

At No. 2 singles, Bulldog Norma Chabbott (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Magen David Yeshiva) cruised to a straight-sets win, 6-2, 6-4, cutting the Brooklyn deficit to 4-2.

In the No. 1 match, Landes tore open a 6-1 opening set before Brooklyn's Maria Sanz (Far Rockaway, N.Y./ Bishop Ford) fought back to take a 6-2 second set. In the decisive set, Landes regained momentum and scored a 6-3 set to clinch the match and the team win for the Gryphons.

Dessanti experienced little difficulty in capturing the No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-2, while Voss walked away with a win by retirement in the No. 4 match.

Sarah Lawrence returns to its home courts on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against York College.
