Match ResultsBRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's final match of 2014, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis was upended by Purchase College, 6-3, at Andrews Courts on Saturday.
With the team making its Skyline debut, Sarah Lawrence (7-7, 1-5 Skyline) handled its tougher schedule by playing to an identical 7-7 record as 2013. With a 6-2 non-conference ledger, the 2014 Gryphons had their best out-of-conference winning percentage since 2009 and their most non-conference wins on record.
Purchase (3-6, 2-4 Skyline) took a quick 3-0 lead by capitalizing on early break points and sweeping the doubles matches.
SLC got its first team point on the scoreboard in the No. 5 singles match. Sophomore
Caroline Harrison (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) won the first four games of her opening set, and she took four in a row to conclude her 6-2, 6-1 win, narrowing the deficit to 3-1.
PC struck back quickly, yielding only four games in the No. 1 and No. 4 singles matches, clinching victory for the visitors.
Playing a pro-set format, sophomore
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) won her second-straight match in the No. 6 position. After taking a 5-2 lead, she won four straight games to close out a 10-3 victory for the Gryphons' second point.
At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) and her opponent each won three break points, dueling to a 7-7 deadlock. Pyatt caught fire to close out the match by winning three straight games for a 10-7 victory, her third in a row. PC closed out the match by winning the No. 2 singles match, 10-8.
Senior
Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) appeared in her final career match. In the last three seasons, she racked up 11 singles and 15 doubles victories.
The Gryphons return to the courts for spring training and play their next match in fall 2015.
