Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y.—In the team's final game of 2014, Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer was defeated by College of Mount Saint Vincent, 5-0, at the Athletic Field at Marillac on Monday.
In the program's second year as a varsity program, Sarah Lawrence (3-12, 0-8 Skyline) completed its first season in the Skyline by matching its three-win total from 2013.
Prior to the game, five SLC seniors were recognized for their contributions to the young program. Captain
Elle Blanchet (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) was a 2013 all-conference player, while
Kaylen Dornan (San Diego, Calif./High Tech High International) also played four seasons, including two for SLC's budding club program.
Sarah Nivala (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) played in her final two years at SLC, while
Lindsay Levy (Potomac, Md./CESJDS) and
Kit Mocarski (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) joined the Gryphons this season.
Mount Saint Vincent (13-4, 5-3 Skyline) held the Gryphons without a shot in the first half. The Dolphins scored a pair of goals in the first half, adding three more in the second.
Rookie
Luana DeBorst (Heredia, Costa Rica/European School of Costa Rica) notched SLC's first shot of the game, firing a bullet from the right corner that found the hands of the CMSV keeper. Less than five minutes later, DeBorst fired a free-kick shot that was also denied.
Blanchet served up a free-kick attempt late in the period, but her pass drifted across the end line wide of the net.
Sophomore
Addie Rosenberg (New York, N.Y./Fusion Academy) recorded 12 saves on the day, bringing her season total to an even 100, an average of over 7 saves per game.
SLC finishes the year with new leaders in nearly every statistical category. DeBorst set a new mark for points in a season, while she and
Shannon Sullivan (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Regional) hit a new high for goals in a season. Dornan and rookie
Clara Ezcurra (Hurlingham, Argentina/St. Hilda's College) each set a new mark for assists in a season.
On the career leaderboard, Sullivan and
Brianna Solo (Laguna Beach, Calif./Trabuco Hills) each have four goals, while Dornan and
Sadie Rose Zavgren (Wilton, N.H./Homeschooled) have four goals and three assists each, totaling 11 career points.
In goal, Rosenberg improved her career totals to five wins and 176 saves. She also set an SLC record earlier this season with 24 saves against Farmingdale State on Oct. 7.
Mount Saint Vincent advances to the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Skyline Women's Soccer Championship. The No. 4 Dolphins host No. 5 St. Joseph's College Long Island on Saturday with the winner advancing to play Farmingdale State College in the semifinal round on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
