BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Picking up the team's first win of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis swept The College of New Rochelle, 9-0, in a non-conference match at Andrews Courts on Thursday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-1) cruised through the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead over CNR (0-1) in the team scoring. In the No. 1 position, senior
Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) and rookie
Sofia Reh (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) had a little trouble but ultimately came out on top, 8-5.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles duos fared even better. Sophomore
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) won their 17th-straight match, 8-0. At No. 3, sophomore
Caroline Harrison (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) and classmate
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) also shut-out their opponents, 8-0.
The singles matches saw the Gryphons dominate from top to bottom. Pincus took the No. 1 match in straight sets, while Atkinson won at No. 2 without losing a game. Reh and Pyatt swept the No. 3 and No. 4 matches, respectively.
At No. 5 singles, Slade came out on top, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 singles spot.
Sarah Lawrence faces its first Skyline Conference opponent on Saturday, when the Gryphons host Farmingdale State College at 1 p.m.
