Match ResultsQUEENS, N.Y.—Making the team's debut as the newest member of the Skyline Conference, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis was doubled-up by Yeshiva University, 6-3, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Yeshiva (4-2, 4-1 Skyline) got the upper hand early, taking two of the three doubles matches. For Sarah Lawrence (1-2, 0-1 Skyline), sophomores
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) kept their winning streak alive, extending it to 18 victories with a 8-6 triumph in the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles action, Atkinson won her second straight individual match, playing at No. 2 singles. After eking out a 7-5 win in the first set, she cruised through the second set, 6-1 to give the Gryphons their second team point.
Yeshiva clinched the match with straight set wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Slade won seven games in her match at No. 4 but was defeated 7-5, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore
Caroline Harrison (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) equalized her match with a second-set win before eventually falling, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
Sophomore
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) pulled out the third and final team point for the Green and White. Taking the No. 6 singles match, Spancheska forced a tiebreak in the marathon final set, pulling out win, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
Sarah Lawrence heads to the Keystone State for a pair of matches this weekend. The Gryphons will face PSU Abington on Saturday before continuing to Cedar Crest College on Sunday.
