Match ResultsNEWBURGH, N.Y.—Winning the team's second match in its last three matches, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis defeated Mount Saint Mary College, 6-3, in a Skyline Conference match at MSMC Tennis Courts on Friday.
Sarah Lawrence (3-4, 1-2 Skyline) started the match by taking two of the three doubles matches. Sophomores
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) made their debut in the No. 1 position, rising to the occasion with an 8-2 win.
In the No. 2 match,
Sofia Reh (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) and
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) gave the Gryphons their second point, 8-5. Mount Saint Mary College (1-5, 0-3 Skyline) took the No. 3 doubles match to narrow the SLC lead to 2-1.
SLC clinched the win by taking four of the six singles matches. At No. 2 singles, Reh yielded just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 win. Pyatt came out on top in the No. 3 match, shutting out her opponent in the second set, 6-4, 6-0.
Slade swept the opening set of her 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 4 match, while sophomore
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) earned the win in the No. 5 slot, 6-1, 6-4.
MSMC earned two-set wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, but the Gryphons came away with the decisive 6-3 triumph for their first-ever Skyline Conference win.
Sarah Lawrence continues its weekend with a match against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at the USTA National Tennis Center on Saturday. SLC returns home on Sunday, hosting Bard College at 1 p.m.
