Match ResultsBRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the team's season opener, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis fell to Drew University, 7-2, in a non-conference match at Andrews Courts on Sunday.
In doubles action, Drew (1-0) came away with the first two points of the match. In the No. 3 doubles match, sophomores
Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) and
Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) reached a 7-7 tie in their first match as a partnership; however, the Rangers' duo eventually came away with the 9-7 win.
Sarah Lawrence (0-1) got its first team point when the No. 2 doubles pair of
Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and
Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) earned an 8-6 win. The sophomores earned their 16th straight victory as a partnership, making the score 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Gryphons earned their second team point when Pyatt came away triumphant in straight sets in the No. 4 singles match. After trailing 2-1 in the opening set, she won five straight games to round out the first set and cruised to the 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The Rangers swept the remainder of the matches to give the visitors the overall team win.
Sarah Lawrence hosts College of New Rochelle at Andrews Courts on Thursday at 7 p.m.
