Women's Soccer Opens 2014 with Shutout Win

Box Score
TEANECK, N.J.—In the team's season opener, Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer picked up a 4-0 victory over Yeshiva University at FDU Soccer Field on Monday. After a rough weekend for the Green and White, the women's soccer team earned the first win for Sarah Lawrence in the 2014-15 academic year.

Sarah Lawrence (1-0) controlled the pace throughout the entire game, holding Yeshiva (0-4) without a shot for the first 75 minutes.

In just the sixth minute, SLC notched its first goal of the season. Rookie Clara Ezcurra (Hurlingham, Argentina/St. Hilda's College) and senior Kaylen Dornan (San Diego, Calif./High Tech High International) fed the ball to sophomore Shannon Sullivan (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Regional). The 2013 all-conference defender capitalized on the offensive opportunity to score her second career goal and give SLC a 1-0 edge.

In the 27th minute, Dornan found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Brianna Solo (Laguna Beach, Calif./Trabuco Hills) followed with another goal less than three minutes later, capitalizing on assists from Ezcurra and Sadie Rose Zavgren (Wilton, N.H./Homeschooled). With the goals, SLC's career scoring leaders Dornan and Solo built a 3-0 advantage for the Gryphons, heading into halftime.

Easing off the throttle, the SLC attack posted five shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 67th minute, rookie Emily Benjamin (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) put away her first career goal on a feed from senior Elle Blanchet (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson).

YU recorded its lone shot in the 76th minute; SLC finished with 24 shots on the day. Dornan led the way with six shots, while Ezcurra and Blanchet added three apiece, and Sullivan and Zavgren each had three.

SLC's starting goalkeeper Addie Rosenberg (New York, N.Y./Fusion Academy) earned the win despite leaving the game without having to face an official shot. First year Noelle Clark (Yonkers, N.Y./The Calhoun School) kept the net in the second half, combining for the shutout in her first collegiate game.

Helping the back line, rookies Tori Davis (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) and Lindsay Levy (Potomac, Md./CESJDS) each served a complete 90 minutes on the defensive end.

The shutout is the fourth in the history of the SLC program, a team that has just one full season on the books; the feat marks the third clean sheet in the team's last five games, dating to last season.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the pitch when the Gryphons travel to face St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Friday at 7 p.m.
