Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Shutout over Maritime

Box Score THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—The Gryphons scored a goal in each half to lift Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer to a 2-0 victory over Maritime College in a Skyline game at Reinhart Field on Wednesday.

KEY MOMENTS
Sarah Lawrence held Maritime to just one shot in the game, while the Gryphons racked up a total of 30 shots in the contest. In the 35th minute, Paige Smith (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) capitalized on a feed from sophomore Sophia Spralja (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente). The senior Gryphon fired from the top of the penalty area and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season and the eventual game-winning goal. Smith led all players with six shots in the half. Sarah Lawrence kept up the pressure in the second half, including 11 corner kicks served up by rookie Jordynn Figueroa (Gresham, Ore./Gresham). In the 83rd minute, sophomore Shira Ungar (Bethesda, Md./Charles E. Smith Jewish Day) broke free down the middle of the field and found Figueroa on the left wing. The first year Gryphon threaded the ball inside the left post to double the advantage to 2-0. The Green and White had no trouble running out the clock on their fourth shutout victory of the season.

GRYPHONS LEADERS
Smith finished the game with a team-record 13 shots, while Figueroa had five. Ungar tallied four shots followed by sophomore Grace Euphrat Weston (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Univ. HS) with three shots. Spralja tallied two shots, and rookies Maddie Eppler (Omaha, Neb./Millard North), Madison Rosandich (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Eva Horstman (Edina, Minn./Edina) each recorded one shot apiece. On defense, Emily Pressley (Columbia, Mo./Hickman), Clarke Powell (Snellville, Ga./Shiloh) and Horstman anchored the defense, while Rachell Mosquera (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) earned the shutout win without facing a shot.

IN THE RECORD BOOK
The 2016 Gryphons have tied the program record for wins in a season including their first time with multiple Skyline victories. The team has set a new record for shutouts in a season and clinched their best-ever winning percentage.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence takes on St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in a non-conference game on Saturday. The Gryphons return home for their season finale on Tuesday against The Sage Colleges.
