Women's Soccer Blanks York, 1-0

Box Score YONKERS, N.Y.—A first-half goal by rookie Jordynn Figueroa (Gresham, Ore./Gresham) proved to be the critical score when Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer shut out York College (N.Y.), 1-0, in a non-conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday.

IN SHORT
Sarah Lawrence (3-6) def. York (4-6), 1-0.

KEY MOMENTS
Figueroa's game-winning goal came in the 17th minute of the game. Sophomore Sophia Spralja (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) fed a pass into the center of the field, and Figueroa struck from 20 yards away from the goal. The first-year Gryphon's high strike deflected off the York goalkeeper's hands and just under the crossbar. The score was Figueroa's third of the season and her second game-winner. The 1-0 SLC edge held firm, and despite a flurry of offensive attacks by the Cardinals in the final minutes, Sarah Lawrence went on to clinch the victory.

TOP GRYPHONS
Figueroa led the team with six shots in the game, putting three on target. For her part, Spralja recorded five shots and leads the team with 28 this season. Sophomore Grace Euphrat Weston (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco Univ. HS) contributed three shots, while Shira Ungar (Bethesda, Md./Charles E. Smith Jewish Day) and Phebe Macrae Corcoran (Tivoli, N.Y./Putney School (Vt.)) had two shots apiece. Maddie Eppler (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) and Eva Horstman (Edina, Minn./Edina) rounded out the Gryphons' 20 shots as a team.

On defense, Emily Pressley (Columbia, Mo./Hickman), Clarke Powell (Snellville, Ga./Shiloh), Madison Rosandich (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Elise Drapeau (Wilton, N.H./High Mowing) also contributed to the shutout victory. Rookie goalkeeper Rachell Mosquera (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) earned her third win of the season after helping to break up the Cardinals' attack.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence returns to Skyline action with a trip to SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday. The Gryphons play their next two home games on alternate fields and will not return to Tibbetts Brook Park until their regular-season finale on October 25.
