Women’s Swimming Wins SLC Sprint Carnival

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's swimming team won nine of 13 events Saturday to finish first among seven teams at the annual Sarah Lawrence College Sprint Carnival at Campbell Sports Center.

GRYPHONS VICTORIES
The Gryphons began the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay. A foursome of Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), Caitie Adler (Pikesville, Md./Wilde Lake) and Naima Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) posted a combined time of 2:01.50 to touch the wall in first place.

Mackrel returned to the pool to win the 100 yard freestyle (56.83) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.05), while Peal posted solo victories in the 50 yard backstroke (30.28), 100 yard IM (1:09.35) and 50 yard butterfly (30.20).

Lawson was the top swimmer in the 50 yard breaststroke (34.67) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.97), while finishing as the runner-up in the 50 yard freestyle (28.01).

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, a team of Mackrel, Peal, Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) and Lawson finished first among 10 teams with a time of 1:50.33.

TOP GRYPHONS
Corbin finished in second-place in the 200 yard IM (2:36.94) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:19.29) in her season debut, while Adler finished third in the 100 yard IM (1:14.50).
