Mackrel Named Skyline Swimmer of the Week

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a record-setting weekend at the Lions Invitational, sophomore Naima Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) has been named Skyline Women's Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

Mackrel was a part of two record-setting performances at the three-day meet at The College of New Jersey. On the opening night of competition, the sophomore joined Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) on setting the school record in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team finished the race in 1:46.23, beating the previous mark of 1:46.79 set by Peal, Lawson, Gabriella Risica and Mackrel at the Metropolitan Championships in 2015.

On the second day of action, Mackrel, a three-time Skyline All-Conference selection, was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke, touching the wall in 59.26, a new Skyline record.

The sophomore also posted a season-best effort in the 50 freestyle (25.23) and helped a 200 medley relay squad to its best performance of the season. (1:54.94).
Mackrel is the second Gryphon in the 2017-18 academic year to earn Skyline Player of the Week recognition, joining Colin Berg of men's soccer. The sophomore is also the fifth women's swimmer in program history to earn Skyline weekly honors, joining Lawson, Risica, Colette Harley and Jacqueline Quirk.

Sarah Lawrence returns to the pool Saturday (Dec. 9) for a Skyline tri-meet, going up against Purchase and Merchant Marine.
