STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Staten Island Thursday at CSI Soccer Complex. Alix Legrand (Damascus, Pa./Scranton Prep) scored his first goal of the season in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

IN SHORT
Staten Island (2-1) def. Sarah Lawrence (0-2), 2-1.

KEY MOMENTS
Legrand gave the Gryphons a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, knocking in a rebound off a missed penalty kick.

Less than two minutes later, Philip Lefkowitz connected on an equalizer, sending a shot to the near post.

Staten Island took the lead for good in the 61st minute, drawing a foul in the box to set up a successful penalty attempt from Joe Bolella.

Sarah Lawrence had its opportunities to find the back of the net, putting five shots on frame. Goalkeeper Mehran Hicks (Hartsdale, N.Y./The Masters School) posted three saves in the contest.

The Dolphins outshot the Gryphons 20-9 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Credit the Gryphon back line for limiting a Staten Island offense that came into Thursday red-hot following a seven-goal performance against Skyline-foe St. Joseph's Brooklyn.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence will be back in action this weekend at the Maritime Soccer Classic with contests against St. John Fisher (Sat., 3 p.m.) and Maine Maritime (Sun., 11 a.m.).
