YONKERS, N.Y. –
The Sarah Lawrence College men's and women's soccer programs took part in Yonkers National Night Out at Sullivan Oval Park. The event was sponsored by the Yonkers Police Department, and joins other National Night Out celebrations held by police departments across the country.
Sarah Lawrence Athletics is proud to be a part of community initiatives, as student-athletes from the men's and women's soccer teams conducted soccer drills with children and other community members at the local park.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much more.
Both the men's and women's soccer squads kick off the 2018 season on Aug. 31 at Tibbetts Brook Park. The women will host York College at 10:30 a.m., while the men play a match against Lehman College at 7 p.m.
