Men’s Soccer Drops Skyline Opener to Yeshiva

TEANECK, N.J. – The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team opened Skyline play Friday with a 6-1 loss against Yeshiva at Votee Park.

The Maccabees got on the board first, when Zachary Stauber found the back of the net off a pass from Dan Cohen in the 36th minute.

Sarah Lawrence equalized the contest 52 seconds before halftime, when Colin Berg tipped in a rebound following a corner kick from Carlos Rivadeneyra.

Yeshiva's offense exploded for five goals in the second period. Jonah Beberman received a towering pass from Marc Ziarno, beating the goalie 1-v-1 with a blast from 20 yards out. Beberman scored again 25 seconds later.

Beberman completed the hat trick in the 58th minute, tipping in an adjacent pass from Ilan Slonim, while Ziarno got in on the scoring in the 68th minute with a header off a corner kick from Cohen. Yeshiva scored one more time in the 87th with Beberman notching his fourth goal of the contest.

The Maccabees finished with 20 shots in the game, including 13 on frame. The Gryphons took 18 shots, putting eight on target. Berg and Mohamed Camara combined to take 11 shots in the loss.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Sept. 22 with a Skyline matchup against Merchant Marine at Fleming Field at 4:45 p.m. It is part of a Gryphons doubleheader, as the women's soccer team will follow with a meeting against Mount Saint Vincent at 7 p.m.
