BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a superb performance on Saturday in the team's first win of the season, Sarah Lawrence first year Aaron Ashery has been named Skyline Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

Ashery recorded eight saves in the Gryphons' 1-0 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the squad's first-ever win over the Mariners.

Merchant Marine, who entered the day with wins over Hartwick, Medgar Evers, Centenary and Lehman, was held scoreless for just the third time this season, thanks in large part to the effort of the rookie. Ashery made several important saves in the contest, including a diving stop in the 27th minute and another save to keep the sheet clean in the 81st minute.

Ashery has appeared in all seven games for Sarah Lawrence, including four starts in goal. His .839 save percentage tops all netminders in the Skyline this season.

Ashery is the first goalkeeper in team history to earn Skyline weekly honors. He is also the second Sarah Lawrence student-athlete to earn Skyline Rookie of the Week recognition this season, joining Kiley Ritter of women's soccer. In addition, Ashery becomes the fourth Gryphon in program history to earn rookie accolades, joining Finn Macmillan '18, Colin Berg, Mohamed Camara and Camary Jonas.

Sarah Lawrence looks to build on its momentum on Wednesday with a match against Purchase at 7 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
