BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College Department of Athletics and Physical Education recognized the 2018-19 athletic campaign with the 38
th Annual Athletics Banquet at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center. Representative across all SLC's 15 varsity programs were honored for their achievements in athletics and academics.
MAJOR AWARDS
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Enike Anyia (Sophomore, Men's Basketball)
Anyia put together a strong sophomore campaign, earning Skyline First Team All-Conference honors and All-Met Division III Third Team accolades, becoming the first Gryphon in program history to earn all-conference laurels. Anyia, a two-time Skyline Player of the Week and All-Met Division II-III Player of the Week honoree, was the Gryphons' most consistent performer, leading the squad in minutes, points and rebounds. Most importantly, Anyia guided Sarah Lawrence to the postseason for the first time in team history.
Sophia Spralja (Senior, Women's Soccer)
Spralja capped off an incredible three-year tenure with the Gryphons with Skyline First Team All-Conference honors. The senior captain was sensational in her final run with the Gryphons, tying teammate
Tiffany McBrayer for a league-leading 11 assists while scoring a career-high seven times for 25 points. She led Sarah Lawrence to its first-ever Skyline Women's Soccer Championship appearance, winning its First Round contest.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
Chaz Stafford (First-year, Men's Swimming)
Stafford rewrote the Sarah Lawrence record board in his first season, setting new team records in four events, including the 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free and 200 back, while being a part of four record-setting relay performances. A two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week and Swimmer of the Week recipient, Stafford was crowned Skyline Champion/First Teams Honors in the 500 free and 1,000 free while earning all-conference recognition in the 200 medley relay.
Tiffany McBrayer (First-year, Women's Soccer/Softball)
McBrayer became the first-ever Gryphon in 2019 to earn all-conference honors accolades in two different sports, as the rookie landed a spot on the Skyline All-Conference Second Team in both women's soccer and softball. McBrayer, a Skyline Rookie of the Week honoree, posted 13 goals and handed out a league-leading 11 assists for 37 points, the fifth most points in the Skyline and the second most among first years. McBrayer started all 17 games, scoring and/or handing out an assist in 12 matches, including the final four contests of the year. McBrayer scored both goals in the team's 2-0 playoff victory over St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
In softball, McBrayer appeared in 30 games, making 29 starts. The rookie finished second on the team in batting average (.394), hits (39) and total bases (46), while leading the squad in runs (26) and stolen bases (7). McBrayer produced 11 multi-hit games and four multi-RBI performances while finishing the season on an eight-game hitting streak.
GRYPHON AWARD
Andi Pfau (Junior, Women's Soccer)
Pfau was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as president in her junior year. She spearheaded the Gryphons '20 for 20' Community Service' efforts, an initiative to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Campbell Sports Center and Godric the Gryphon, the College Mascot.
ALICE ILCHMAN SCHOLAR ATHLETE
Matias Sanchez (Senior, Men's Tennis)
Sanchez graduates as a two-time Skyline All-Conference performer and finishes among the top-10 all-time in singles wins.
Katherine Labadie (Senior, Cross Country)
Labadie was a four-year runner and was consistently a top-five finisher for the Gryphons throughout her career.
VARSITY AWARD
The Varsity Award is rewarded for successful varsity participation in at least three academic years
