Dalrymple, Willibey Score in Non-Conference Loss at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. – First-years Niki Dalrymple and Haley Willibey found the back of the net for a third consecutive contest, but it wasn't enough as the Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday against non-conference opponent Rutgers-Newark at Frederick Douglass Field.

RECAP
Rutgers-Newark, coming off a win over Penn State Harrisburg Sunday, raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of play. Tamia Howell scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute, followed by another score from Sabria Glasow, the NJAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week, 55 seconds later.

Dalrymple cut into the deficit in the 28th minute with her sixth goal of the year, blasting a shot from outside the 18-yard box to the left side of the netting.

Willibey tied the contest 3:45 into the second half. Tiffany McBrayer, who handed out a pair of assists in Monday's victory over Lehman, served up another helper, playing a free kick into the box, finding Willibey, who was able to slip the ball past the keeper for her fifth goal of the season.

The Scarlet Raiders regained the lead for good 25 seconds later with a goal from Shayna Bohus. McBrayer nearly tied the game in the 88th minute, but had her shot saved by the goalie.

Rutgers-Newark was the aggressor for much of the evening, finishing with a 24-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 margin in attempts on target. Despite conceding three goals, goalkeeper Maddie Mertsch did what she could to keep the Gryphons in the contest, posting six saves.
