Three Gryphons Score in 3-2 Victory Over York

YONKERS, N.Y. – Three Gryphons scored their first goal of the year Wednesday, as Sarah Lawrence held on to defeat York, 3-2, in a non-conference men's soccer matchup at Fleming Field. It is the Gryphons second victory over a CUNYAC opponent this season.

RECAP
Pacqui Pascual gave Sarah Lawrence a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, ripping a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to the far right post. The score was his first of the year and second of his collegiate career.

York knotted the contest in the 25th minute with a score from Marvin Mondesir, but the Gryphons regained the lead in the 37th minute following a goal from Sinjin Mendenhall. The first-year blasted a rocket of a shot from 30 yards out over the outstretched arms of the keeper to the right side of the netting for his first collegiate score.

Josiah Corson provided Sarah Lawrence with a 3-1 advantage, scoring his first-ever goal in a Gryphons uniform in the 64th minute, flicking in a header off a feed from Mendenhall.

The Cardinals did not go away quietly, shrinking the margin to a one-score contest in the 67th minute. York continued to attack in the final minutes, but was unable to convert, highlighted by a save in the 86th minute by Aaron Ashery. The sophomore made three saves in the squad's first home win of the season.

"I am really proud of the team for a good response," said head coach Evan Brandsdorfer. "It was a very good performance and a well-deserved result. We take this momentum into our first conference game of the season. As always, we enjoy our first home win of the year but turn our attention to opening up league play on Friday."

Sarah Lawrence has won three of the last four meetings against the Cardinals, outscoring York 9-4.
