BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches Sunday at Campbell Sports Center. The Gryphons defeated the Cannoneers in five sets in the opening contest, but was defeated by CCNY in the nightcap.
TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Felix Massey accumulated team-highs in kills (22) and aces (12), while also recording 11 digs and five assists.
Ithai Diakov paced SLC in assists (26), while posting eight kills, six aces and eight digs.
Aaron Ashery finished the afternoon with seven kills, one ace and four digs.
RECAP
Match 1: Sarah Lawrence 3, Pratt 2
Pratt won the first two sets of the contest, winning the opening game, 25-21, and taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 decision in the second.
The Gryphons avoided the sweep, using an 8-1 spurt in the frame to double up on the Cannoneers, 14-7. Pratt got within four but not any closer, as SLC scored the final three points of the set to win, 25-18.
In the fourth set, Pratt raced out to an early 9-3 lead. The Gryphons continued to battle, chipping away at the deficit. Trailing 10-8, SLC scored four unanswered points to take the lead. The Gryphons would pull away, outscoring Pratt 9-1 to open up a 21-11 advantage, securing the set, 25-19, and forcing a decisive fifth game.
In the final set, the two teams traded points for an 11-11 score. SLC pulled away, scoring the final four points of the frame to win, 15-11, and secure its first victory of the season.
Match 2: CCNY 3, Sarah Lawrence 0
The Beavers won the opening set by a 25-15 margin, while cruising to consecutive 25-11 wins in the second and third games to earn the non-conference win.
