THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Two goals in the first five minutes against Maritime College was all the offensive explosion the Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team needed en route to an easy 5-0 road victory.
The Gryphons improved to 7-3-1 overall and stayed perfect at 4-0-0 in the Skyline Conference while the Privateers dropped to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in conference.
SLC got on the board just 4:00 into the match off an own goal by a Maritime defender.
The lead was extended out to 2-0 just 60 seconds later when
Lily Matalus notched her third goal of the season after collecting a deflected pass from
Cora Colvin and depositing the ball into the back of the net.
Colvin would get into the scoring column herself at the 20:59 mark when she took an outlet pass from
Hailee Duckrey up the right side and scored on a blast from 10 yards out. The goal for Colvin was her fifth of the season.
Emma Floyd closed out the first half scoring when she headed a pass from
Lainie Cadieux over the keeper's reach and into the back of the net with 36:17 gone in the half.
Matalus finished off the scoring with another goal less than 10 minutes into the second half. The tally for the sophomore from Colorado was assisted by
Viktoria Balbin.
The Gryphons pelted the Maritime keeper with 26 shots including 13 on goal for nine saves while the SLC tandem of
Maya Pfeiffer and
Bridgette Lee saw a combined one shot and none on goal by the Privateers.
