BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis team fought hard but eventually lost a close 5-4 decision at home against John Jay College.
The Gryphons (1-3) got off to a strong start picking up two points after the doubles flights thanks to an 8-6 victory by the duo of
Carrie Sun and
Ellie O'Brian in the No. 1 doubles flight over John Jay's Sarina Moi and Kimmy Kim.
Sarah Lawrence would pick up an additional doubles-flight point by default as the Bloodhounds (2-3) only brought five players for the match. The lack of a sixth player also cost the Bloodhounds a point to the Gryphons in singles play as well.
Melody Valenza downed Kim in the No. 3 singles flight by a tally of 8-2.
Nitika Kamath gave her opponent in the No. 4-singles flight all she could handle before bowing out in defeat to John Jay's Kenya Kisson 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-1).
