SLC Celebrates Senior Day; Ends Season with 2-0 Skyline Victory

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team wrapped up their 2023 season on Wednesday, taking down Maritime on senior day by a score of 2-1. The Gryphons honored seven players before the game for their contributions to the program.

Top Performers
  • Ralph Calle Schulz scored both SLC goals, helping the Gryphons close the season with a win
  • Leon Bronshvag assisted on both scores, putting corner kicks in the box for Calle Schulz to convert into scores

How it Happened

The first half was quiet as both offenses struggled to convert on any opportunities. Both sides had looks at goal but shots could not connect, with most ending wide or in the arms of the keeper. Maritime had a look at an open net after Kian Silva came out of net to make a play on a ball, but the Maritime shooter hit the post and kept the score at 0-0 as we entered the half.

The Privateers would strike first in the second half, as Jack Burkhardt scored off a breakaway in the 66th minute to give this team a 1-0 advantage. A few minutes later, Bronshvag took a corner kick and put it to the far post, for Calle Schulz to redirect into the top right corner of the net for the equalizer. 13 minutes later, Bronshvag would head to the same corner and send a ball to the far post, where after a pinballing set of ricochets, Calle Schulz would once again find the back of the net, this time to give his team their first lead of the day.

The Gryphons wrapped up their season with a final record of 5-10-1 and a 3-7-1 mark in conference play. The team earned impressive early-season wins over Skyline and non-conference opponents, jumping out to an impressive 2-0 start to conference play and a 3-0 start overall. Faced with a tough away schedule and a relentless Skyline schedule in the middle of the season, the Gryphons battled back to end the year on a high note with two consecutive victories.
