Gryphons Travel to Purchase for Tight Skyline Matchup

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team fell to the Purchase Panthers 4-5 in a Skyline matchup on Wednesday night. The Gryphons will travel back to Purchase, N.Y. on Saturday, but this time to take on the Valiants of Manhattanville.

Simi Rao and Sasha Conner took home a victory at first doubles, defeating the duo from Purchase 8-5, while Ghiyan Dornelly and Chloe Cohen did the same in the third flight by a score of 8-3. Kyra Johnsen and Neomi Spellman teamed up for second doubles and the duo fell 8-3.

In singles play, Rao won handedly in the first flight by scores of 6-1, 6-2 while her doubles counterpart Conner took care of business in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Spellman and Johnsen both fell in singles play, with Spellman going three sets at third singles but eventually falling 6-4, 3-6, 0-6. Johnsen fell 1-6, 2-6 at fourth singles. Dornelly fell in a close second set after going down 2-6 in the first, losing in a tiebreaker in set number two 4-7. Mary DeSouza battled in sixth singles but ultimately fell to Purchase's Novalie Nguyen 6-2, 6-0.

The Gryphons (2-6, Skyline 0-2) will travel back to Purchase, N.Y. on Saturday, October 7th, but this time to take on the Valiants of Manhattanville for a 12:00 p.m. Skyline matchup.
