Women’s Soccer heading to Italy for a pair of International Exhibitions

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team will be departing for a one week long trip of Italy on Sunday, June 4th. The trip will be highlighted by two international exhibition matches in Roma on June 6th and 8th before the Gryphons return to the United States on Saturday, June 10th. The Sarah Lawrence travel party will embark on sightseeing throughout the country during the week long tour, including visits to numerous museums, markets and even world-renowned spectacles such as the Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain and Colosseum. The Gryphons will also be connecting with an accomplished alum of the women's soccer program, Sophia Spralja, who holds the program record for most assists in a single game with five. Spralja currently works at the Vatican Museums after spending three seasons as a member of the Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team and a year of studying at England's Oxford University.

The Gryphons finished the 2022 season as Skyline regular season and postseason champions, finishing with an impressive 14-4-3 record, including an unblemished 10-0-1 record in Skyline play. The Gryphons earned the top seed in the Skyline tournament, defeating Manhattanville and Farmingdale State to mark the program's first conference title as well as its first NCAA tournament berth. Head coach Maurizio Grillo's squad will look similar in 2023 as the program graduated just two seniors from this past year's conference championship winning roster. The incoming recruiting class for the Gryphons will help replace key contributions from both seniors as 12 incoming players will be added to the roster for the 2023 season.
 
The reigning Skyline conference champions will first take on Sporting Vatican on Tuesday June 6th at Centro Sportivo Ciriaci in Roma at 8:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. Eastern). The Gryphons will then take on Trastevere Calcio at Trastevere Stadium on Thursday June 8th in a game that will start at 7:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. Eastern). The game against Trastevere will be live streamed on the club's YouTube channel, which is linked here.
