2022-23 Equestrian Season Recap

7.20.23

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence equestrian team completed their 2022-23 season earning five or more ribbons in all but one show in addition to sponsoring a Zone 3 Championship qualifier in sophomore Ashley Spector-Townsend

Notable Performers
  • The aforementioned Spector-Towsend ended both the fall and spring seasons with trips to regionals as she qualified in two events in the fall and one in the spring
  • Senior Sarah Santos rounded out her Sarah Lawrence career with two top-five finishes in her final collegiate show on February 25th

The Gryphons had a very successful all-around season with great team finishes in all shows, including four seven-ribbon performances. Spector-Townsend led the way, as the sophomore made an impressive run through qualifying events in the spring, finishing just short of a trip to nationals with a fifth place finish at the IHSA Zone 3 Championships. The Los Angeles native cruised through the IHSA Regionals event, earning a reserve championship in the intermediate fences event en route to qualifying for the next weekend's zone championships event. This was the third event this year that Spector-Townsend qualified for in regionals, earning a spot in two separate events this past fall. Head coach Lori Rakoczy will enter her 26th year at the helm of the school's equestrian program and while the loss of the aforementioned Santos will undoubtedly hurt the Gryphons, a strong group of returning riders will look to replicate the success of the team's 2022-23 season.
