Trio of Goal-Scorers Propel SLC over Brooklyn

YONKERS, N.Y. - Head Coach Evan Brandsdorfer and the Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team kicked off their 2023 season with a 3-2 victory over Brooklyn College. The Gryphons had three different goal-scorers as they topped the Bulldogs after 90 minutes of play.

Top Performers The Gryphons jumped ahead early as Nate Davis gave the team their first goal of the season. Davis took a beautiful arching corner kick from Leon Bronshvag and headed it past the Brooklyn keeper to give Sarah Lawrence a one-goal advantage five minutes into the game. The Bulldogs would not give up, answering just over a minute with a goal of their own as Bradlej Cupi got past the Sarah Lawrence defense and tied the game at one. The game would remain knotted at one goal apiece until after halftime, with the two squads combining for just four shots on goal for the remainder of the first half. About five minutes into the second half it would be Fajardo to find the net, taking advantage of the out-of-position Brooklyn goalkeeper to give the Gryphons another one-score advantage. Once again, there would be another goal scored a minute later, but this time it would be Sarah Lawrence to strike again. Monaco Collins would strike from deep, scoring on a free kick from about 35 yards deep to give the home team a commanding 3-1 advantage. 47 seconds later, the Bulldogs would answer once again, getting behind the SLC back line and finding a gap to bring the lead down to just one with almost 40 minutes remaining. Despite the resurgence, Sarah Lawrence's defense and goalkeeper Elijah Shohat held strong for the remainder of the game, keeping the Brooklyn offense quiet and helping the Gryphons secure their first win of the season.

The Gryphons (1-0) will return to action on Wednesday, September 6th as they travel to Saint Elizabeth University to take on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. in Morristown, N.J.
