Three Different Gryphons Score at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence Gryphons nearly completed a comeback against the Purchase Panthers, falling 4-3 after the Panthers took a 3-1 lead towards the end of the first half. Three different Gryphons scored in the game, including the first of the season for two of the three goal-scorers.

How it Happened

The aforementioned Bronshvag opened the game's scoring in the 4th minute with a converted free kick opportunity from 25 yards out. The Panthers knotted up the game in the tenth minute as Ermin Mackic scored off a rebounded shot for his 14th goal of the young season. The two teams would remain tied at one goal apiece for the next 20 minutes until Purchase took the lead with a header in the 29th minute and added to their advantage four minutes later with another goal by Mackic. Roney's second-half score would bring the advantage down to just one score and Kopecky's converted penalty-kick opportunity would even the contest with 15 minutes remaining. Purchase's Jair Cano would score the game-winner in the 81st minute for his first goal of the season and the Panthers would claim their second Skyline victory of the season while the Gryphons well in conference play for the first time in 2023.

The Gryphons (3-4, Skyline 2-1) will return home for their next contest, the latter half of a SLC soccer doubleheader on Saturday, September 30th. The Gryphons will host St. Joseph's Long Island for a 6:00 p.m. showdown following the SLC women's soccer team's 3:00 p.m. bout with Maritime.
