Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Perbeck

Defense keeps Patterson Offense at bay in 1-0 Sarah Lawrence Victory

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team defeated William Patterson on Sunday in what has become a familiar result over the past year. Despite that, it was an unfamiliar face who put the Gryphons ahead 1-0 early in the second half and secured the victory by the same score.

Top Performers
The game was a defensive battle, as the two sides combined for just 13 shots throughout the contest. The Pioneers were able to get just one shot on goal throughout the game and Lee was ready when the moment presented itself, making the stop to keep the visitors scoreless. Throughout the first half, the Pioneers were able to get four corner kick opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.

The second half started off similarly until six minutes in, when Sarah Lawrence got a good run off a William Patterson turnover and Beaver broke away from her defender. The first-year from Broomfield, Colorado used her left foot as she got past the keeper and gave the Gryphons a 1-0 lead that would hold through the remainder of the game. The Pioneers would re-assert some pressure in the final three minutes and test the SLC defense, but the Gryphons would stand strong and keep the ball out of the box throughout the final horn.

Up Next

The Gryphons (1-0) will return to action on Wednesday, September 6th as they travel to Vassar College for another non-conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
