Last-Second First-Half Goal Propels Gryphons over Raptors

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Ava Warren found the back of the net just seconds before halftime to give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead that would hold throughout the entirety of the second half. Sarah Lawrence now sits at 2-1 on the season and will return home for their next game.

Top Performers
  • The aforementioned Warren scored with six seconds remaining in the half
  • Viktoria Balbin assisted Warren for her first assist of the season

How it Happened

Despite 44 scoreless minutes, the Gryphons were in control throughout the first half, totaling 12 shots compared to just five by the Raptors. The Gryphons also led in corner kicks 2-0 as they continuously put pressure on Bard's defense. It would be a free kick opportunity off a yellow card that would allow the Gryphons to take their eventual game-winning lead, as Balbin put a beautiful ball into the box for Warren to put past the keeper.

The second half would remain scoreless throughout, as Bard would get just one shot off the entire half and while the Gryphons took nine, none would be on goal. The goalkeeping tandem of Bridgette Lee and Maya Pfeiffer shut the Raptors out, as Lee kept the hosts scoreless in the first half and Pfeiffer followed suit in the second.

Up Next

The Gryphons (2-1) will travel to Madison, NJ to compete against FDU-Florham and return to the home field of Fleming Park on Wednesday, September 13th as they host Rutgers-Newark for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
