Shohat Shines with 10 Saves as Gryphons Welcome Valiants to Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manhattanville College on Wednesday night at Fleming Field. Despite a strong defensive performance and multiple impressive saves by goalkeeper Elijah Shohat, the Gryphons were unable to break through offensively, as Manhattanville's second-half goal proved to be the game-winner.

Notable Performers
  • Shohat, the team's senior keeper, was a standout for the Gryphons, making 10 saves and denying several dangerous Manhattanville attacks
  • Jude Jordi-Donnelly put SLC's lone shot on goal late in the game
  • Nick Fajardo and Leon Bronshvag both totaled two shots to lead the Gryphons in the losing effort

How it Happened

The match was tightly contested from the start, with both teams battling for control in the midfield. Manhattanville applied early pressure, forcing Shohat into several key saves to keep the game scoreless for the first 45 minutes. The Valiants' attack, led by Mason Chetti and Alec Pineda, continued to test the Gryphons' defense, but Shohat's efforts kept the score level at halftime. Early in the second half, Manhattanville broke the deadlock when Del Vescovo capitalized on a well-placed pass from Trujillo, scoring in the 51st minute. Sarah Lawrence responded with increased urgency, and Bronshvag came close to equalizing with a shot that was blocked by the Valiants' defense. Despite a few late efforts, including a shot on target by Jude Jordi-Donnelly in the 86th minute, Sarah Lawrence was unable to find the back of the net.
