YONKERS, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Field in the first round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Gryphons will advance to play Mount Saint Vincent in the Skyline Semifinals on Wednesday, November 6th in Riverdale, N.Y.

How it Happened
The match began with both teams vying for control in the midfield. Sarah Lawrence created the first significant opportunity in the 17th minute with a shot from
Cora Colvin that was saved by Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Kristin Vahle. The Gryphons continued to press and broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Matalus set up Beaver, who scored with her right foot from in front of the goal. St. Joseph's managed just one corner kick in the first half and failed to put a shot on goal, as the Gryphons took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Gryphons ramped up the pressure with 11 shots, testing Vahle, who made five saves. St. Joseph's also pushed forward, in search of an equalizer, but Vaca and the Gryphons' defense held firm, led by first-team all-conference defender
Daniela Perez and sophomore
Madeline Moor. A late attempt from St. Joseph's forward Gianna Gambino was saved by Vaca, preserving the shutout and securing the win.
