Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team headed to the USTA National Tennis Center on Thursday as they took on John Jay in a non-conference bout. The Gryphons fell 2-4 to the Bloodhounds, taking one doubles victory and a pair of wins in singles play.
In doubles play,
Zoe Kovac and
Josephine Jackson teamed up in the first flight, falling to John Jay's top pair in a close 4-6 matchup.
Kyra Johnsen and
Caroline He faced a similar fate in the second flight, falling 2-6 to the Bloodhounds. In the third flight
Hiba Raiz and
Melody Diaz would earn SLC's first victory of the day, blanking their opponents from John Jay for a 6-0 victory despite the doubles point going to the Bloodhounds.
In singles play, Kovac would fall in a pair of 1-6 sets in the first flight but Jackson and Johnsen would both win their respective matchups. Jackson would win 6-2, 6-0 in the second flight as she continues the terrific start to her collegiate career. Johnsen edged out a 7-5 victory in the first set before taking a bit more comfortable 6-4 victory in the second. He and Diaz both fell in straight sets in their singles matchups, but Raiz and her opponent at fifth singles would trade sets and enter into a tiebreaker. The match would be suspended before the pair could battle it out for the victory, with Raiz leading 3-2 at the point of stoppage.

The Gryphons (1-4, Skyline 0-1) will return to action on Saturday as they head to Newburgh for a matchup with conference foe Mount Saint Mary College at 1:00 p.m. The Gryphons will look to even their conference record at 1-1 and replicate last season's 6-3 victory over the Knights.
