Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Balbin's Second-Half Score Gives Women's Soccer 1-0 Win over Farmingdale

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence Women's Soccer team use a second half strike from senior Victoria Balbin to take down the Farmingdale State Rams 1-0 on Wednesday evening. The win came in SLC's annual breast cancer awareness game, and gave the Gryphons their fourth Skyline victory of the season.

Notable Performers
  • Balbin scored the eventual game-winner in the 57th minute for the Gryphons
  • Madeline Moor assisted Balbin on the game's lone score
  • Bella Vaca played all 90 minutes in goal for SLC, making five saves
How it Happened

The hosts held a slight possession advantage in the first half, but it would be the Rams who would lead in scoring opportunities with five shots on goal to Sarah Lawrence's two. Stephanie Alberghine led the FSC attack, putting up five shots in the first fifteen minutes of play, but a pair of saves by Vaca would keep the game knotted up at zero. Balbin forced Farmindgale's first save of the night in the 24th minute, as Hailey Stork maintained the tie. A 41st-minute save by Vaca would send the two teams into the intermission without a score, setting up for a pivotal second half.

The Gryphons opened the second half by pressuring Stark in goal, as Katey Beaver and the aforementioned Moor both put the FSC keeper to work. After the early looks from the Gryphons fell short, Balbin would break through in the 57 minute, taking two touches off a pass from Moor and putting the ball into the top right corner over the outstretched arms of the Farmingdale keeper. The goal gave Balbin her fifth of the season and gave the Gryphons a one goal advantage with just over 30 minutes to play. The SLC defense held strong for the remainder of play, as the back line of Moor, Daniela Perez, Hailee Duckrey and Sydney Atherley held the Rams to just one shot on goal for the final 33 minutes and change.

Up Next

The Gryphons will return to action on Saturday as they head North to take on Purchase College at 1:30 PM. Sarah Lawrence will look to carry the momentum from Wednesday's win into the matchup with the Panthers as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.
