10.20.25

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Skyline conference announced its weekly awards report on Monday afternoon, naming a trio of Gryphons as recipients of awards. From the women's soccer team, two players of the week, and from the women's cross country team, a runner of the week.

Senior Viktoria Balbin was named the Skyline Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore goalkeeper Bella Vaca was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week after helping the team to a pair of Skyline victories this past week. Balbin scored a beautiful game-winning goal to give SLC a 1-0 win over Farmingdale State on Wednesday night while Vaca kept the Rams scoreless while playing all 90 minutes in goal and making five saves. The duo stepped up on Saturday as well, with Balbin registering an assist in the team's win over Purchase College while Vaca scored from the field in the shutout victory. Both players will return to action at Fleming Field on Wednesday, October 22nd as the women's soccer team hosts Old Westbury.

On the trail, it was Perry Yun who once again shined as the women's cross country team earned another top finish. The team finished second in Saturday' Saint Joseph's Invitational at Sunken Meadow Park and led all Skyline programs in attendance. Yun finished third individually and led all Skyline runners. Her time of 21:31.2 was under a minute behind the race's winner from Division II Queens College and under 10 second behind the top Division III finisher. The Gryphons will look to keep their strong season going as they head to the Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday morning at Purchase College.
