HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Sarah Lawrence equestrian team totaled 13 ribbons in their season-opening show on Saturday, October 4th. FIrst-year rider
Leena Mathiasen earned a blue ribbon for the Gryphons while 10 different Gryphons ribboned overall.
As mentioned, Mathiasen earned a blue ribbon in her first collegiate show after an impressive performance in the pre novice flat.
Rose Stabile joined Mathiasen in the event, putting up a fourth-place finish to help add to the team's ribbon total. In the introductory flat, the Gryphons earned two more ribbons, as
Nyah Raposo and
Mia Chamorro put up third- and fifth-place finishes in the event, continuing the team's impressive day. The Gryphons then got a pair of fifth-place finishes in the novice flat, as
Summer Stammely and
Talia Rosenthal each built on strong 2024-25 campaigns.
Sophia Zamuner was the seventh Gryphon to earn a ribbon, doing so with a seventh-place ride in the limit flat.
A trio of riders brought home multiple ribbons for SLC, including
Saffron Bessler, who participated in both the limit flat and limit over fences for the Gryphons. Bessler put up top-seven finishes in both rides, highlighted by a sixth-place mark in the over fences event. Team captain
Maeve Lamson continued a strong SLC career, with a fifth-place ride in the intermediate over fences before earning a red ribbon in the intermediate flat. Newcomer
Angel Chen rounded out the group's performers with a pair of ribbons of her own, earning a fourth-place finish in the intermediate flat before a seventh-place ride in the open over fences.

The Gryphons will return to the ring on Sunday, October 12th as they head to Pleasant Valley, N.Y. for the New Paltz horse show. The Gryphons will look to continue their success after an impressive double-digit ribbon performance to start the year.
