Women's Soccer Ends Season with First Round Matchup against SJLI

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team fell to the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-0 in the Skyline Conference Tournament First Round. The hosting Golden Eagles advanced to take on USMMA in the semifinals next Wednesday.

Notable Performers
  • Bella Vaca played all 90 minutes in goal for SLC, making two saves
  • Viktoria Balbin led the team with three shots in the loss

How it Happened

The Golden Eagles broke through early, scoring in the 20th minute as all-conference forward CC Rosario headed in a corner kick. The Gryphons were unable to put up a shot for most of the half, as both defenses kept opportunities to a minimum, but a 44th-minute look from Balbin went high and sent the Gryphons into the half down a score.

The second half saw the Gryphons come out stronger offensively, as Balbin and Katey Beaver each registered shots in the first minute of play, but neither were able to force the SJLI keeper into action, keeping the score at 1-0. An 88th-minute run by Beaver would seemingly net the Gryphons an equalizer, but would be called off due to an offside on the junior, keeping the hosts in the lead. The Gryphons would not get another look at the goal for the remainder of the contest and SJLI would advance to next week's semifinals.

The Gryphons ended their season with a first-round exit for the first time since 2021. The program will look to once again contend for a Skyline title next season despite losing a strong senior class. The Gryphons will return to action next fall in search of an eighth consecutive postseason appearance.
