BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Five Gryphons were named in this week's Skyline Awards Report, including a swimmer of the week and a rookie of the week on the hardwood. A trio of Gryphons were named as honorable mentions as well after a strong week for all SLC programs.
Sarah Lawrence women's basketball first year
Sarah Theriault took home a second Skyline Rookie of the Week award after helping the team to a 3-0 week. Theriault averaged 19.3 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, three assists and 3.7 steals while shooting 60% from the field on good volume. A standout 29-point performance on Monday night against Bard set a season-best for the South Berwick, Maine product while an efficient 10-point effort against Hunter on Wednesday night helped the Gryphons take down the Hawks in Bronxville. Theriault is now averaging over 16 points and five rebounds per game while leading the Gryphons in a variety of categories this season.
Ella Hernan took home Skyline Swimmer of the Week honors after a brilliant performance in the pool to round out the fall semester. The senior won a pair of individual events in addition to swimming in a winning SLC relay team. Hernan earned a victory in the 50 breaststroke, but it was a win in the 100 I.M. that was the most impressive, besting a fellow all-conference Gryphon to win the event with a time of 1:08.37. The senior also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay team, swimming the first leg of the event and positioning the team for a win. Teammates
Cordelia Bay and
Patrick Rau earned honorable mentions in the report for rookie and swimmer of the week respectively. Bay won the 500 freestyle while joining Hernan on the winning medley relay team, also contributing a third-place finish and a second-place relay swim for a total of four top-three placements. Rau swept his four individual events, wrapping up his SLC career with a spotless weekend. Rau started the day with a season-best swim in the 100 I.M. before wins in the 50 butterfly and 500 freestyle to continue the momentum. A final victory in the 50 breaststroke sealed the four-win performance and an impressive overall career.
On the court for the men, senior standout
Eamon Kelly earned an honorable mention for player of the week after averaging 20.5 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 steals for the Gryphons. Kelly poured in 29 points on Wednesday in the team's game against Pratt Institute while adding in 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists on Saturday as the Gryphons took down Centenary on the road. Kelly and the Gryphons will wrap up their non-conference slate on Tuesday against Albertus Magnus in Bronxville before their Skyline season-opener on Saturday at Mount Saint Vincent.
