Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Starts Match with First-Set Victory against Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team took the first set of Thursday's match at Purchase College before falling to the Panthers 1-3. The Gryphons will return to action next on Sunday as they take on NJCU and Yeshiva in a Jersey City tri-match.

Notable Performers
  • Nate Davis led the team with 16 kills, adding in five bigs and two solo blocks
  • Lucas Buckley hit an efficient .476 while totaling 10 kills and a team-high six digs
  • Nicholas Fajardo led the team with 23 assists and an ace

How it Happened

The game started off with Fajardo setting fellow senior Ralph Calle-Schulz for a kill before the former aced the Panthers for a 2-0 SLC lead. A Buckley/Roney block, a Roney ace and kills by Davis and Jackson Perhaes helped the Gryphons to a 12-6 advantage. The Panthers rallied, but a Perhaes/Roney block and another Perhaes kill along with a Davis solo block helped the Gryphons to set point before a Purchase error gave the visitors on early lead. The Gryphons jumped ahead throughout the start of the second set, but a mid-set run by the Panthers gave the hosts an 18-16 lead. After a Davis kill to bring the set within a point, the following seven points would go to the Panthers, with back-to-back aces wrapping up the set. The Panthers would use another strong mid-set sequence in the third set and a strong beginning and ending to set four as they rallied from their first-set loss to take a 3-1 match victory.
