Women's Tennis Dominates Lightning for First Victory of 2025

Box Score BRONX, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team defeated the Lehman College Lightning on Friday evening by a score of 6-1. The win marked the team's first victory of the young season, moving them to 1-1 before returning home for a home match against John Jay on Tuesday, September 16th.

How it Happened

The Gryphons opened play with a pair of doubles wins, including a close 7-5 win by Neomi Campbell and Josephine Jackson in the first flight. A pair of Gryphons in their first season with the team posted a dominant 6-0 victory in the third flight, as Margaret Moon and Colleen Coughlin dominated the Lightning. Zoe Kovac and Viha Shah fell 5-7 in the second flight, but the Gryphons secured the doubles point to get ahead in the match.

In singles play, Spellman fell in the first flight after her doubles victory, but the remaining five Gryphons all won their matchups to help the team secure the victory. Kovac won in consecutive 6-4 sets in the second flight for her first singles win of the season. Moon added to her doubles victory with a singles win in straight sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Shah then continued the winning streak for SLC with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the fourth flight as the Gryphons clinched the match victory with her win. Coughlin won her singles bout with decisive scores of 6-0, 6-4 before Seraphina Panucci wrapped up the winning effort for SLC with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the final flight.

The Gryphons (1-1) will return to Bronxville for a Tuesday-night matchup against John Jay on September 16th at 6:00 p.m. The Gryphons will look to continue Friday's success against another CUNYAC opponent as they welcome the Bloodhounds to campus.
