Women's Soccer Hosts UMSV for Early-Season Skyline Bout in Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0. The game marked a rematch of last season's Skyline semifinal that went to penalty kicks after a scoreless regulation and two scoreless overtime periods.

Notable Performers
How it Happened

The Dolphins controlled much of the possession early, forcing Vaca into multiple saves before breaking through in the 38th minute when Kerrigyn Lynam scored off a feed from Aiyanna Robles Sedano. SLC nearly found an equalizer moments later when Katherine Varghese rang a shot off the crossbar, but the Gryphons went into halftime trailing 1-0. Mount Saint Vincent doubled its lead early in the second half as Robles Sedano finished a chance set up by Lily Ostiguy in the 60th minute, then extended the margin to 3-0 just 11 minutes later with a goal from Michelle Zuniga. The Gryphons had an opportunity to climb back into the match in the 84th minute when Chaffin earned a penalty, but her attempt was saved by Javiera Sanchez to preserve the shutout.

Up Next

The Gryphons (1-7-1, Skyline 0-2) will return to action for a pair of home contests next week. The team will host FDU-Florham for their final non-conference contest of the season on Monday night before resuming conference play with a Tuesday-night matchup against St. Joseph's Long Island. Both games will start at 7:00 p.m. from Fleming Field as the team looks to rebound from Saturday's loss.
