POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer team faced a tough test Sunday, October 11, falling 8-1 to nationally ranked No. 9 Vassar College at Gordon Field.
The Brewers (7-0-4) scored twice in the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into the break before adding six goals in the second half. The Gryphons (7-2-5, 6-0-1 Skyline) found the back of the net in the second half, as freshman Zoey Barth scored her second goal of the season.
Vassar opened the scoring in the third minute and added another goal in the 38th minute to carry a two-goal advantage into halftime. The Brewers extended their lead early in the second half, but Barth responded just 35 seconds after Vassar's third goal, putting Sarah Lawrence on the scoreboard in the 53rd minute.
Barth finished with one shot on target, converting her opportunity for the Gryphons' lone goal of the afternoon.
In goal, Bella Vaca played all 90 minutes and recorded six saves while facing a Vassar attack that generated 30 shots, including 15 on target. Sarah Lawrence recorded four shots, with one on goal, while Vassar held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Gryphons return to action on Saturday, October 17 for a 12:00 p.m. Skyline matchup against Mount Saint Vincent.
